Overdose Scare: R. Kelly’s Lawyers Claim Prison Murder Plot Behind Medical Emergency

R&B singer R. Kelly was reportedly rushed to the hospital after what his legal team describes as a near-fatal overdose while in federal prison. His attorney now alleges that this medical emergency may not have been accidental, but part of a larger, more sinister plot.

Medical Emergency at Butner Prison

According to recently filed court documents, Kelly — who is currently serving a 30-year sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Butner, North Carolina — was taken to Duke University Hospital on June 13. The documents claim that he was administered a dangerously high dosage of his prescribed medications while in solitary confinement.

The incident allegedly began on June 10, when Kelly was placed in isolation “against his will” while still in possession of his medications. His legal team says prison staff later approached him, reviewed the medications he had, and then returned with additional doses along with instructions to take them. Surveillance footage is expected to support this timeline.

Sudden Health Decline and Collapse

After taking the medication as directed on June 12, Kelly reportedly felt dizzy, weak, and began seeing black spots. The next morning, he attempted to stand but collapsed in his cell. According to the legal filing, he crawled to the cell door before losing consciousness. Emergency staff transported him to the hospital on a gurney after on-site medical personnel were unable to treat him.

While en route to the hospital, Kelly allegedly overheard a staff member comment, “This is going to open a whole new can of worms.” He remained hospitalized for two days after receiving treatment for the overdose.

Lawyer Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot

Kelly’s lawyer, Beau B. Brindley, claims the singer’s life was deliberately put in danger by prison officials. He believes the dosage given far exceeded safe medical levels and insists this is part of a broader pattern of neglect — including denial of blood-thinner medication and refusal to allow surgery for dangerous blood clots.

Brindley also claims that this incident occurred shortly after Kelly filed a motion suggesting a plot within the Bureau of Prisons to have him killed with the help of another inmate.

Plea for Help and Presidential Pardon

In a bold statement, Brindley is calling for emergency action — including temporary home confinement for Kelly. He’s also appealing directly to former President Donald Trump, urging him to intervene and issue a pardon, stating that only Trump can stop the alleged corruption and save Kelly’s life.

“It seems only President Trump has the power to save him,” said Brindley, “and strike a blow against the kind of injustice that has plagued this case from the beginning.”

Official Response

The Federal Correctional Institution in Butner declined to comment on the specifics of the situation, citing privacy and security concerns.

Kelly, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was convicted in 2021 on multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of women and minors. He began serving his sentence the following year.
