Pete Davidson and Madelyn Cline Call It Quits: What Went Wrong?

The Saturday Night Live host and Outer Banks star have split after about 10 months of dating, according to multiple outlets. 

While in a relationship, Cline, 26 and Davidson, 30 maintained a low profile. Multiple outlets claimed the couple quietly broke up, with a source close to Davidson saying, 

“They ended things fairly recently, and I understand it was amicable.”

How It Began

Pete Davidson and Madelyn Cline were first linked back in September 2023 and had been inseparable ever since—until now. They were known to keep mostly to themselves, what with Madeline Cline (if not both of them) being very private people.

They were first spotted spending the night in Las Vegas where they’d been for Davidson’s show.  One month later, the couple seemed to confirm their romance by attending an SNL after-party together in New York City after Davidson hosted the season 49 premiere.

Moments Together

Soon after that, Davidson and Cline had drinks and a bite to eat at Bobo’s Café in Somers, New York, in December, shortly after Davidson canceled several of his forthcoming gigs due to “unforeseeable circumstances,” according to bystanders.

After that, the two were never seen together again, but the actress did show up in Davidson’s Turbo Fonzarelli Netflix special.

Davidson’s High-Profile Love Life

Davidson’s love life tends to make headlines after he dated pop singer Ariana Grande. He’s been in several high-profile relationships with celebrities like Kate Beckinsale, Phoebe Dynevor, Kim Kardashian, and Emily Ratajkowski, and recently, the Outer Banks’ actress Madeline Cline.

It’s unclear as to why their relationship fizzled because things were apparently going well as of April 2024, so we won’t know what changed. 

Conflicting Statements

When their relationship began, a source told outlets on behalf of Cline, 

“It is in no way serious, she is taking it day by day and that is all that works for her right now.”

And contradicting that statement, another source, when their relationship was at least 6 months in, told ET News: 

“Things between Madelyn and Pete seem to be getting more serious. Madelyn sat in the audience next to Pete’s family while he hosted SNL last night.”

Possible Reasons for the Split

Of course, the reason might be that earlier this year, it looked like Davidson was focusing on getting back on track with his Peacock comedy show Bupkis after he pulled the plug on it.

When Madeline and the Bodies Bodies Bodies actor initially started dating in September 2023, they had just ended their previous engagements. It happened less than a month after Davidson broke up with Chase Sui Wonders, who he dated for nine months.
In 2022, Cline was most recently linked to singer Jackson Guthy. That came after an affair with her co-star Chase Stokes from the Outer Banks, who is currently seeing Kelsea Ballerini.
