Johnny Depp’s Comeback: A Closer Look at His Seamless Return to the Screen

A Prominent Year for Johnny Depp

The first half of 2024 marks a prominent year for Johnny Depp as he will be returning to the screen, both on-screen and behind the screen. He’s fully geared up to make a proper comeback to the theaters—and to our hearts.

Depp has also been confirmed to act in a Terry Gillian movie, titled The Carnival at the End of Days, which is set to release in 2025. He’s going to be playing Satan alongside other major Hollywood actors.

A Journey Back to Acting

This feature will officially mark his return to this side of the screen after his phenomenal performance in Jeanne Du Barry. The French language film, in turn, had marked Depp’s first big-screen appearance since his defamation trial against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

Jeanne Du Barry, although having been released back in 2023, saw an official US release in theaters very recently. And like most of Johnny Depp’s recent releases, it received some flak and was reportedly, even taken down from a few LA theaters due to low ticket sales.

Gilliam’s Support and Depp’s New Role

Terry Gillam had shown support to Johnny Depp’s performance in the French film during the UK premiere, and it seems like that’s what inspired him to choose The Pirates of the Caribbean to play the supposedly antagonist role in the new movie. He’ll be playing alongside Jeff Bridges, Adam Driver, and Jason Momoa.

The filming has been scheduled for January 2025 and it boasts of a very interesting and dominant cast that will set screens ablaze. And to the excitement of fans of satirical comedies, this one will be “very funny for those who like to be offended,” according to the director.

What Is The Carnival at the End of Days About?

The plot of The Carnival at the End of Days mostly revolves around God wiping out humanity for destroying his garden Earth and Satan is the one trying hard to save it. It is a light and humorous take on the inception of the Bible as we see it. 

The release date and more production details are not available yet but are expected to be revealed some time soon. As of now, it’s expected to release during the second half of 2025 or possibly even 2026.

Other Exciting Projects

Currently, he’s been gearing up for the release of the animated movie Johnny Puff: Secret Mission, in which he has given voice to the feathered protagonist Johnny Puff who is, with his friends, on a “secret mission” to save Taigasville, where they live, from  the evil plans of Otto von Walrus. The movie is the sequel to the movie ‘Puffins.’

In more good news for his fans, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ 6 is finally in the works and Depp will be coming back on board as Jack Sparrow. Disney is also looking at two A-list actors to work alongside Depp in this upcoming film, but will not, allegedly, have Jack Sparrow playing a significant role, but a supporting character.

Speculations on Pirates of the Caribbean 6

The 6th part will allegedly be filmed in Haiti, and there are speculations that he might even be replaced by Ayo Adebiri as the main lead.

The other actors in talk for playing the main leads in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 are Hailee Steinfeld and the Elvis actor, Austin Butler.
