Gayle King Jokes About Marriage Plans After Blue Origin Space Flight

Veteran journalist and CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King is back on Earth and already thinking about what’s next on her list of life adventures. After soaring to space earlier this month aboard Blue Origin’s all-women flight, the 70-year-old made a playful comment about future goals and marriage just might be on the horizon.

King attended the prestigious TIME 100 Gala in New York City on April 24 and spoke with reporters about what’s next now that she’s checked space travel off her bucket list.

“Getting married,” she said with a laugh, before quickly clarifying, “No, maybe just getting my ears pierced.”

A Space Adventure to Remember

On April 14, King made headlines after joining Blue Origin’s brief but historic space journey alongside notable names like Lauren Sánchez and Katy Perry. The flight, which lasted approximately 11 minutes, marked a significant milestone for the journalist.

“I’m honestly so proud of myself,” King shared post-flight. “Never in a million years did I think I could do something like this. Now I feel like I can accomplish anything!”

Past Love and New Hopes

Though King was previously married to attorney William Bumpus from 1982 to 1993, she’s been single for some time. The former couple share two adult children — daughter Kirby, 38, and son William Jr., 37.

King has been candid in recent years about her views on dating and finding love later in life. Speaking on The Tamron Hall Show in 2024, she opened up about the unique challenges of dating while being in the public eye.

“If I could just use a dating app anonymously, that would be great. But being a public figure makes that tough,” she admitted. “So, I just hope to meet someone through a friend of a friend.”

As for her ideal partner? She’s keeping it lighthearted but clear.

“I’m open to someone younger — but not too young,” she joked. “Let’s just say I don’t want to date anyone I could’ve given birth to.”

What She’s Looking For

At this stage in life, King is all about finding someone who brings positivity and support.

“You want someone who cheers for you, who’s secure in themselves,” she explained. “And having their teeth wouldn’t hurt either,” she added with a smile.

Whether it’s another groundbreaking experience or a new chapter in love, Gayle King continues to inspire, proving it’s never too late to dream big.
