Everything we know about Nicole Kidman’s new Mini-series: The Perfect Couple

You are cordially invited to Benji Winbury and Amelia Sacks’ wedding—With murderous intentions, of course.

It looks like Netflix has finally run out of stories and Nicole Kidman has run out of scripts to choose from. Another classic murder mystery, based on a book set at a wedding, was brought to you by Netflix. But wait, maybe it’s different this time.

Based on Elin Hilderbrand’s New York Times best-selling novel, The Perfect Couple will revolve around Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson), a bride marrying into one of Nantucket’s wealthiest families. Greer Garrison Winbury, the groom’s mother and a famous novelist (played by Nicole Kidman) spares no expense on the high-society wedding. 

But then, to nobody’s surprise (at least not to ours), a dead body shows up on the beach where the wedding would take place, and everyone becomes a suspect.

A Teaser Packed with Suspense

A teaser trailer released not 3 weeks ago. To add to the suspense, the trailer ended with the words: 

“They’re rich. Kill someone and get away with it rich.” 

On July 11th, Netflix released an “invitation card,” on their website, complete with the weekend-wedding schedule, the things to do and places to stay in Nantucket– where the movie is based– the details of the “wedding party”, i.e., the cast.

In The Perfect Couple, Liev Schreiber portrays Tag Winbury, the groom’s dashing father. A charismatic yet enigmatic figure, his presence casts a shadow over the lives of the soon-to-be husband and wife. Schreiber’s ability to portray characters with depth and nuance makes him a perfect fit for the role of head of this family that seems to be hiding secrets within it.

The Talented Crew Behind the Scenes

Jenna Lamia is the writer, showrunner and Oscar winner Susanne Bier will direct all six episodes and executive produce others including Shawn Levy from 21 Laps Entertainment who also produced Stranger Things, Shadow and Bone and Unsolved Mysteries. 

Gail Berman and Hend Baghdady for The Jackal Group, Kidman and Per Saari for Blossom Films, and Josh Barry are all executive producers of the limited series.

Eve Hewson plays Amilia Sacks, the bride marrying into the island’s wealthiest families. The other cast and crew include Dakota Fanning, who is seen advising her soon-to-be sister-in-law. “The key to this family is to just stay on the periphery, where it’s safe,” she explains. Ooh, ominous.

The soon-to-be husband, Benji Winbury is played by The Serpent star, Billy Howle. Meghah Fahy, from The Bold Type and Ishaan Khattar from A Suitable Boy will play the Bride and Groom’s best friends respectively.

Fans of Nicole Kidman can expect to see her deliver a nuanced and emotionally resonant performance in ‘The Perfect Couple.’ Known for her ability to portray complex characters with depth and authenticity, Kidman is sure to captivate audiences with her portrayal of Greer, the groom’s disapproving mother.
