From Yeezy to Retirement: Kanye West’s Legacy in the Spotlight.
Yes, you read that right. Confused? Well, you’re not the only one.
Kanye “Ye” West, the all time rapping god, the most prominent figure in American hip hop 2024, has allegedly said that he will be retiring from music. Or, at least, that’s what Rich the Kid claims through his DM screenshots.
On Tuesday, July 9th, Ye’s collaborator in “Carnival” posted a DM screenshot of his conversation with Ye. The GIMME A Second rapper deleted the conversation an hour after he posted it though. The conversation went somewhat like this:
“I am retiring from professional music. Not sure what else to do,” Ye wrote in the message while seemingly appearing uncertain.
A lot of fans were stupefied and went ballistic in the comment section, expressing their perplexity.
They wrote: “First Cena now YE.” Referring to John Cena’s retirement from WWE. Another fan, on X, wrote: “OH NO KANYE IS RETIRING 😱😱😱,” clearly expressing their shock and aversion to the news. Or, it could also just be sarcasm—who knows?
Rich The Kid Tries to Convince Kanye
In the DM, Rich The Kid replied, trying to convince Ye otherwise:
“Retire? Why? How? The ppl NEED you. The music you & Ty & we have made the BIGGEST STAMP in culture to this date in 2024. Drop Ye about mine & V2 and we do it all over again. The kids need you big bra fasho. Maybe some time to chill, but retiring ain’t it.”
A guide to the slang being used: Biggest stamp, as one would assume, means making history in music culture. Fasho is an abbreviation for ‘For Sure’. And ‘Ye about mine’ and ‘V2’ (Vultures 2) are tracks that West will be dropping with Rich the Kid.
And anyone can see how Rich the Kid is trying to move Ye by pointing out his love for his fans and music. I mean, yes, the situation is that dire, that he would need the bid guns, but it still feels forced, doesn’t it? Especially considering it’s Rich the Kid.
A Marketing Ploy? Fans Weigh In
A lot of fans aren’t taking the rapper at his word, as many believe that this could be a marketing ploy leading up to the release of their new album.
A fan, on instagram, went as far as to write: “It’s Kanye. Bro just being dramatic like usual.” And for those of us who know Ye, bro’s as right as ever.
What’s more, as soon as this incident happened, Rich the Kid made a follow-up announcing that his Life’s A Gamble album would be arriving the next Friday (July 19) and features West on “Gimme a Second 2” and “Plain Jane.” Ye and Ty Dolla $ign also serve as executive producers on the project.
“ACTUALLY WE DROPPING FRIDAY 7/19,” The rapper wrote on X with a series of crying laughing emojis.
ACTUALLY WE DROPPING FRIDAY 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 7/19 https://t.co/OhbZHLXeYd pic.twitter.com/RjFzpGvhQ6

Will Vultures 2 Release?
This drama has now been facilitated with Ye first revealing the release date of the album (August 2nd) and then deleting it. Which has left us hanging in the air. Will Vultures 2 release today?
In other news, Ty Dolla $ign announced over the weekend that he and Ye were planning to bring the Vultures experience to South Korea with a listening party slated for August 23 at Goyang Stadium. Tickets are reportedly scheduled to go on sale later this July. And after this news came out, people feared that Vultures would never see the light of day.
Kanye West’s Record-Breaking Legacy
Rich The Kid has worked with Ye before, appearing in their song “Carnival” alongside Ty Dolla $ign and Playboi carti, which gave Ye his fifth No. 1 megahit atop the Billboard Hot 100.
Indeed after releasing music singly this time following his string of antisemitic reflections and difficulties, West still put figures on the boards with predators beating the Billboard 200 — his 11th design at the map’s apex — in February.
Ye has indented 157 Hot 100 entries in his decorated career which is good for the sixth utmost of all- time — gauging two decades with 21 top 10 successes to his name.
