Taylor Swift makes history with her Record-Breaking Streak on the Billboard in 2024

Unmatched Career Milestones

For anyone not well versed in the phenomenon that is Taylor Swift, let me tell you about her various, extraordinary achievements only in the last two years.

Taylor Swift, or the ‘Mother of the Music Industry’ as she’s called by her fandom, achieved a new career high. Her new album, ‘Tortured Poets Department’ spent 11 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard 200. This accomplishment ties the album with her other albums 1989 and Fearless as her longest leading No. 1 albums, which have also spent 11 weeks at the top.

The album, which is anticipated to spend another week at the top, would become the first album by a woman to stay on top for 12 weeks since Adele’s 21, which spent 24 inconsequent weeks at the top in 2011-12. 

Chart Dominance in 2024

During the first week of July, The Tortured Poets Department earned 114,000 equivalent album units in the U.S., which is a 1% dip from the previous week. But this album, which debuted at No. 1 on May 4, still managed to not budge from the top spot since its release.

2023: A Year of Swift’s Legacy

The year 2023 to 2024 has been especially agreeable to Swift. She not only topped the Billboard chart in 2023 as well, but also released her record breaking concert film, which offered a concert-like experience. Moreover, besides reigning atop the album sales Billboard chart, Taylor was named 2023’s most streamed artist globally.

During the Eras tour, she was not only able to sell millions of tickets but also able to contribute $5.7 billion to the US economy. The 14-time Grammy winner was also featured on the cover page of Time Magazine where she was named as the 2023 Person of the Year.

Topping Charts Without New Music

But, this achievement is nothing compared to the largest feat that she achieved in 2023, which was topping the charts without even releasing new music. She didn’t have to worry about losing her loyal fan base in a time where artists pledge to always release new material, whether it be music, movies, or TV shows. No matter how long it takes her to release fresh breakup or falling-in-love songs for her fans to cry and scream to, the singer is aware that the generation of followers she has built over the years will support her.

But, even after staying true to her old music, Swifties were understandably not entirely satisfied until April 2024, when her new album was released. So, in 2023, Taylor gave them (us) two re-recorded albums: Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

Women Dominating the Billboard

For all the women out there, it’s quite empowering to note that this week has been very rewarding for women, with women being at the top of the Billboard including Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Megan’ debuting at No. 3, making it her sixth top 10 album. What’s more, following the release of a deluxe vinyl edition of her album, ‘Cowboy Carter,’ Beyonce jumped from No. 50 to No. 10. And now, we add Taylor to the list, with her having spent a total of 80 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
